piticó® at a Glance
History
piticó® has been 10 years in the making. The company was actually established and registered legitimately in 2010. However, it was while one of our Directors was living in Mexico that the vision for this company was formed. One day on a trip into the mountains, he came across a village which boasted unbelievable talents. He fell in love with the community there and very quickly a relationship formed with some of the elders. Their arts and crafts inspired him and he very quickly realised that he wanted to be a part of their story.
The families that he befriended took him in and showed him exactly how their lives were. Dedication, hard-work and a passion for their heritage was clearly evident. He had never seen such artwork! That was the day he was introduced to the world of the Alebrijes.
Having witnessed the whole production process from start to finish, he immediately realised that these were special people… with extraordinary talents… but whose lives had never been easy. There was hardship to be seen everywhere.
He felt as though the very existence of these people and the continuation of their arts and crafts depended on him. So, he made it his mission to help them by bringing their products to the new world of Europe.
Our Philosophy
It is our belief at piticó® that everybody deserves the right to a fair life. Through this, we have developed our business strategy along the same way of thinking. We are not a non-profit organisation. However, all we cover is our costs. We are not drop-shipping. Every item is paid for and stored at our European headquarters in Germany. Every product is unique and so there can be no bulk-ordering. We make regular trips to Mexico to see the progress that the village and its inhabitants are making. We promote the products only as and when they are ready and in our hands. In essence, our business can only work at the same rate as the artists can produce them as every product is 100% handmade which takes between 2 to 6 months.
It is our goal to showcase the amazing artworks of the local people and to truly promote their heritage, and in doing so, provide a sustainable income so that their villages may flourish and their crafts continue well into the foreseeable future.
We hope that by supporting the local communities at place of origin, we can help alleviate some of the hardships that the locals must endure on a daily basis. We are committed to helping in any capacity whatsoever. We believe in our products. They are truly authentic collectors’ items which have a wonderful history which should be preserved at all costs. We are proud to be associated with such a heritage and will strive to bring the story of the alebrijes and any other arts and crafts that they produce, to the masses.
